Camping

So sorry for the major delay, everyone.  My father-in-law tells me (every time I see him) that he's memorized the Simple Woman's Daybook, so I'd better post something new.  Here it is, Russ!

We went camping in May--the maiden voyage for summer 2010.  We started quite cool and rainy, but it turned out to be a beautiful weekend.
Checking out the fishing spots.
We hiked a pond trail and looked for frogs and turtles.   We didn't find any of those, but I did find a tick on my jeans.  I felt crawly the whole rest of the trip.
We did not catch one fish, though we tried more than once.
We did have some good food, though.
Black Grandma and Grandpa came for a visit for the day.
We checked out the nature center, and there we were able to spot tons of turtles sunning themselves on logs in the pond.  Maybe 20??
Sophie and Owen had fun playing with kids from the neighboring campsite.
We hiked to the top of Mt. Tom.  "Mount" being a relative term considering we live in the Midwestern plains.
There we are in all our camping glory, at the top of Mt. Tom!

This makes me just a little bit jealous! I can hardly wait for our annual camping trip in August. We're going to Gooseberry Falls park this year... and renting a camper. No more sleeping in the bed of my truck on a futon mattress!

Thanks for posting. I LOVE that picture of Owen with the marshmallow (?). He looks likes he's telling you someting really serious. =)

I love how you refer to "black grandma" etc....I have 2 Aunt Lynda's. One with very blonde hair and one with dark brown hair. From the time I was a little girl, I have referred to them as White Lynda and Black Lynda. Funny!
